EDIT AI

Empowering historically underserved communities to understand and contributue to the intersection of ML, AI, and biomedical studies.

Summer zoom meeting

Advancing clinical translational sciences by validating emerging diagnostic technologies.

EDIT AI is a pivotal national internship program hosted by Dartmouth Health and the Dartmouth Cancer Center’s (DCC) CRTEC initiative, founded in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Launched in 2019, EDIT AI aims to inspire high school students from diverse backgrounds to explore innovative career pathways at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and medicine. Over the past five years, EDIT AI has seen extraordinary success and growth. From its modest beginnings with just six students, the program has burgeoned to include nearly 90 participants annually from over 20 states.

To date, more than 210 students have benefited from EDIT AI, with impressive outcomes:

  • Academic Advancement: All alumni have pursued higher education in prestigious colleges and universities, some are nearing graduation.
  • Global Recognition: Participants have presented their research and projects on international platforms.
  • Scholarly Contributions: A significant number of students have authored publications in peer-reviewed journals, contributing valuable insights to the fields of AI and healthcare.
  • Scholarship Awards: Numerous students have earned scholarships based on their achievements and innovations during the internship.

Students in the EDIT AI program have opportunities to spearhead multiple projects while interfacing directly with clinicians and will be exposed to a blend of interdisciplinary research perspectives.
